Episode 545: Thanks to Amazon, One Medical and Whole Foods are on the same shelf
Hello and welcome to Equitya podcast about startup activity, where we unpack the numbers and nuances behind the headlines.
alexander, Natasha and Mary Ann reunited with Grace again this week for our weekly roundup show, and as often happens, the news broke as we were preparing to record. So we had to address the huge Amazon-One Medical affair to start. Naturally, we all had thoughts.
What else have we entered? What follows:
- Crunchbase has raised $50 million! Yep, our former employer has raised another big sleeve that has us all thinking about his health, our history of it, and our love for his press team and other parts of the company that we remember fondly.
- What does Arkive build?, and do we support his work to build some sort of NFT-powered decentralized IRL library. A DAO is also involved.
- ForSight builds eye surgery robots, just lifted a stack itself, and we’re hyped about it. This reinforces a key learning from Natasha’s recent robotics panel, which was part bullish, part bearish.
- From there, it was time to talk about the multitude of new venture capital funds that have come out, Modsy’s end – Where is this? — and some stories that touch on the situation in Ukraine, including one huge russian fine from Google, Preply’s latest funding round and how solar energy can fight fascism.

Episode 544: OK, Don’t Be Afraid: Long Plans Always Get VC Funds
Hello and welcome to Equitya podcast about startup activity, where we unpack the numbers and nuances behind the headlines.
This is our Wednesday show, where we focus on one topic, think about one question, and unpack the rest. This week, Natasha and alexander asked: How do the founders have two ideas in mind: both that there is an economic downturn, but also that things are looking up for many industries?
After a series of episodes about the tensions within the recession, this is a “good news, despite” episode.
We had a great time and hope you enjoy this show. We’re back on Friday with our regular news roundup!

Episode 543: When Will India Decide on Crypto?
Hello and welcome to Equitya podcast about startup activity, where we unpack the numbers and nuances behind the headlines.
alexander and Grace are back to cover the biggest and most interesting tech, startup and market news. Today was a fun day in that we didn’t start with bad news — what a change!
- Stocks are up around the world and cryptos have rebounded in the past week. The positive price movement in the crypto-land, however, does not seem to ignite a fire under the NFT market, for example.
- Robots! Yes, our robotics-themed event — Free! And online! – is this week, which means I have robots on my brain. it did the Syrius round all the more interesting. It looks like e-commerce will remain a key driver of robotics innovation for some time to come.
- The podcast deals are still going, sort of. Acast acquires Podchaser, which may or may not mean a lot to you. What matters in this agreement is that Spotify was not involved. It’s a change!
- Quick hits: India could ban cryptoat least if its main bankers succeed, the implosion of Missfresh has a small lifeline and Modsy is no more – and the way it happens leaves a lot to be desired.
