Minecraft, a sandbox video game developed by Mojang Studios, has successfully updated its usage policies to offer more guidance on rapidly evolving non-fungible token (NFT) technologies that have recently taken the industry by storm. of the video game.
In a July 20 press release, Minecraft confirmed it was updating its usage policies to offer more specific guidance on new blockchain technologies. The quick response comes after some comments from community members about his stance on NFTs.
Minecraft clarified that it will not allow integration with non-fungible tokens (NFTs) or blockchain. The gaming platform reported that NFT is a blockchain digital asset that is often purchased with crypto like Bitcoin (BTC).
Minecraft noted that although NFTs are digital works of art providing a state of ownership to digital art, they are associated with speculation, where influencers pump and dump prices to generate returns.
Minecraft NFT Usage Policy
Minecraft updated its usage policies to allow all players access to the same functionality, arguing that it remains a community where everyone has access to the same content. Minecraft argued that NFT integrations create patterns of scarcity and exclusion, which may conflict with its guidelines and spirit.
Recently updated policies prohibit Minecraft players from integrating blockchain technology into its server applications and game content such as worlds, skins, personality items, or other mods.
Minecraft noted that some companies have released NFT implementations relating to world files and skin packs, such as Minecraft collectible NFTs. According to Minecraft, all of these NFT integrations create digital property based on scarcity and exclusion, which does not match its creative inclusion value.
Additionally, Minecraft argued that speculative pricing and investment around NFTs shifts the focus of game-playing gamers towards profit, creating inconsistent long-term joy and success for users.
Minecraft has raised concerns that many third-party NFTs may be unreliable and players who purchase them may suffer heavy losses. Nevertheless, Minecraft has recognized the intrinsic value of a trading platform where values are recognized.
In the meantime, Minecraft has banned players from integrating blockchain technologies into its service applications to create NFT assets associated with game content, including worlds, skins, and personal items.
